About North Coast Region
North Coast Region covers the coastal areas of Bundaberg, Hervey Bay and the Sunshine Coast and inland to the Burnett hinterland. Hervey Bay and the Sunshine Coast are among the fastest growing urban areas in Australia. Those areas attract significant numbers of tourists each year.
North Coast Region has 46 urban fire stations. The region is staffed by approximately 210 full-time staff. That includes, career firefighters, Firecom, Community Safety, Technical, Regional Headquarters and Area Office staff. The Region is supported by approximately 479 auxiliary fire officers.
Rural fire management in the Region is supported by 6000 Volunteers. Rural Operations in the Region is managed by 19 full-time staff in the Regional Office and Area offices based in Bundaberg (82 brigades), Maryborough (75 brigades) and Caloundra (56 brigades). There are 213 rural fire brigades in the Region.
Emergency incidents are reported through the North Coast Fire Communications Centre which is located at Kawana on the Sunshine Coast.
North Coast Region first introduced Safehome as an initiative which aims to assist the community in safeguarding their homes; and families against the threat of fire. The program provides information on fire safety. Firefighters are available to assist the community with the installation of smoke alarms and escape plans. Firefighters conduct Safehome audits in homes at the resident’s request.
