Bushfire update Mount Archer as at 9pm

10/17/2009 9:00:49 PM

The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) continue to battle a large bushfire at Mount Archer.

Rockhampton Yeppoon Road has been closed until the danger passes and motorists are asked to avoid the area to allow emergency vehicles to have clear access.

Property owners in the Lakes Creek area and at the base of Mount Archer who were earlier relocated have been advised that they can return to their homes.

No details are available at this stage on any property damage or loss however early information suggests that no homes have been destroyed in the fire.

Emergency services will remain on scene through the night to battle the blaze and work to protect properties in the area.

Residents should continue to be prepared to enact their bushfire plans and take advice from authorities.

No further information is available at this stage.
