Surfers Paradise – high rise fire

Multiple fire crews attended a fire in a high rise apartment building at Orchid Avenue, Surfers Paradise overnight. Firefighters initially responded to an alarm activation shortly after 12.20am and located a fire in an electrical switch board in a lower level of the building. An evacuation of the building was conducted in conjunction with the Queensland Police Service (QPS). The fire spread to a nightclub on the premises, causing significant damage. The blaze was brought under control around 3.40am. Approximately 40 persons were assessed by paramedics on scene and two patients were transported to Gold Coast Hospital, a woman with breathing difficulties and a firefighter with heat stress. Fire investigators have been requested to assist with investigations.
