SES Week

During SES Week we honour the hard work and outstanding efforts of the staff and volunteers across Queensland who form the State Emergency Service (SES). SES Week marks an important event in the calendars of our staff and volunteers. It provides the opportunity to honour the hard work and dedication that the SES provides to the communities of Queensland.

Regional events are held around the state to celebrate SES Week awards, recognising SES volunteers and units who have gone above and beyond in supporting the communities of Queensland. For more information on what is happening in your region, contact your Regional Office.

National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week (NVW) takes place in May and is an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation's volunteers.
During NVW people around Australia come together to recognise and thank the six million Australian volunteers who contribute so much to their communities. Thousands of events are held around the country. For more information visit the NVW website.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is proud of its volunteer workforce who play a crucial role in helping QFES to deliver services and build safer, more resilient communities.

QFES volunteers, made up of approximately 33,000 Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers, 5,300 SES volunteers, a volunteer Research and Scientific Branch network and Technical Rescue Unit volunteers, help Queenslanders prepare for, respond to, and recover from a range of disasters and emergencies. The contributions they make towards the safety and wellbeing of the state are immeasurable.

Wear Orange Wednesday

Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW), the national day to celebrate and thank SES volunteers, takes place annually on the Wednesday of NVW. You can get involved in the following ways:
•    Add a splash of orange to your outfit for the day and take part in any WOW celebrations in your area.
•    Take a photo of yourself donned in something orange and post it on social media along with the #thankyouSES and #WOWDAY tags.

SES partner organisations play an integral part in celebrating the SES Volunteers.
